You tube will re-encode your clip anyway! If you are intending You Tube to be your final destination, I shouldn't bother too much about recording at the highest quality. The higher the bitrate, the higher the quality. All the other figures refer to the various available bitrates. The only frame rate options will be either 25 or 50 fps. No, the 1080/28p you mention will refer to the maximum bit rate of 28Mb/s, not a '28 fps' frame rate Surely the new laptops screen and resolution isn't just highlighting these issues because its in better detail. I don't think its my laptop, or its screen resolution etc, but, I didn't notice quality loss after exporting like this on my older more rubbish laptop. I hope I havn't missed any info that you may need to help me. I'm just losing loads of quality after the file has been through the editing software. Whats with the m?īear in mind, I do not really know what bitrates or variable passes mean, or anything for that matter, so I literally changed these settings after having read similar posts about export settings. I am also confused by the Panasonic camcorder menu saying 1080 50m. The export 'quality' setting is always on 'best'. I've also changed the encoding setting from variable 1 pass, to variable 2 pass. I've set the bit rate and peak bitrate to the maximum 20000kbps. I have made it look slightly better by changing a few export settings, such as upping the bitrate to its maximum, which is 20000kbps.

These settings appeared to work on my old laptop (which did not have a full hd 1920x1080 screen by the way if that makes any difference.) The result is a video which looks much worse than the raw file I began with.

I then export as a file, then choose the mp4 format.Īgain there are no presets for 1080 50p, So I have to modify the 1080p24 preset, by changing the frame rate to 50.000. I then edit my video, which consists of basic trimming, captions and fade ins/outs. So the only thing I modified is the frame rate. The rest of those settings above are the same as the 1080p24 preset option. So to try and match what the camcorder is filming in, I make a custom project setting of:īear in mind I ONLY changed the frame rate from 24.000 to 50.000. The project setting options are 1080p24 or 1080i50. Here are the facts and figures of what I'm using.Ĭamcorder - Panasonic HC-w850, always filming in its highest quality mp4 format which is 1080 50m (I presume that's 50 frames per second?)

So that tells me its the editing/exporting where something is going wrong. All of this is not present in the raw video.

I noticed that black colours, seem to have a weird pixelated blur/effect. The exported video looks a little blurred and grainy. Enough so that having a decent camcorder and laptop seems like a waste. So I made a quick test video on the new laptop, and the quality of the exported video is considerably worse than the raw file. Now, on my old laptop, after editing and exporting, the quality of the exported/rendered video compared to the raw video was pretty much unnoticeable. I then installed my Serif Movieplus 圆 video editing program onto it. I recently picked up a new laptop, much more powerful than its predecessor.
